Publio Virgilio Marone.
Virgilio, The Poet, He, The Great, the most important writer of his
period.
But He was also a wizard. He was a Mystic and the protector of Naples;
his magic life influence Naples until now.
Sometime, someone can see a sort of shadow, light, a figure of high
man ancient dressed - a blue tunic -, and a book, the Magic Book in
his hands.
And you can see him (ghost, shadow), in our ancient quarter, and he
seems, absent, immerse In a sort of deep reading of his Magic Book and
looking for some new prodigy.
High, beautiful and elegant, He was a man rich of fashion, and with
a sort of magnetism coming from his studies and all surrounded of
a mysterious breeze.
Virgilio was an "initiated"...... at esoteric practice.
Many and many are HIS works. Magic prodigy, illusion.
The Golden Fly, that HE created blowing in the wind.
It started to fly upon the city and liberated Naples from an heavy
invasion of grasshoppers.
HE restored all the Phlegraean area. Before of his miracle the area
was a marsh, bog, and Neapolitan citizen kept at a great distance
from that area.
After the prodigy, the Phlegraean land became one of the most beautiful
site of the city and till now it's considered a sort of Paradise,
a resort area inside the city.
It's a wholesome area, and people came there to rest and to breathe
good air.
HE changed the wind direction. Before of this event blowed from south
and the country graved was damaged.
Recovered the horses from a unknown sick; Helped fishermen, and discovered
an hot spring fountain.
Discovered the mystify of Cuman Oracles ministers. A terrible serpent
was under the quarter Pendino (in the heart of Naples), heating many
babies.
Virgilio went in front of the monster, and asked to stay alone. Than
HE killed the serpent with the only arm of his Magic Book. The Mystic
restored the underground caves of the city. Before of HIS "work",
there are horrible caves, where lived picturesque and horrible figures,
and monsters.
He made his prodigy, and till now the underground Naples is one of
the tourist site, one of the most attractive sites.
One night, He had nothing to do, and so he hollowed a cave, joining
the city with countries.
This grove is now one of the most important city road and links the
city centre, (seaside area) to the popular quarter of Fuorigrotta,
that has been developed thanking to the Piedigrotta Grove.
In Piedigrotta now HE rest and at HIS feet start one of HIS best and
most important masterpiece; Piedigrotta grove.
There is also a little but most important church. Piedigrotta, near
the grove, famous because not many years ago the top important Neapolitan
popular fest was Piedigrotta fest (at the end of Summer). The top
event of the year, waited by all the people, that had its best period
during Bourbons domination..
But the most famous miracle of Virgilio was also the most simply.
He takes an egg, put it into a nest. Easy.
He goes on Megaride rocks, the place where was found the Mermaid body
that gives the ancient name of Naples (Megaride).
He went on this rock and put the nest on that place. Stop.
The Castel dell'Ovo (ovo means egg in Neapolitan), due to this simply
act all his magic power.
Here in Naples people says that all the Castel was built on Virgilio
egg.
All the castle, great tufa construction is on balance upon Virgilio
egg.
And for a sort of extension, typical of Naples and Neapolitan people,
All the city of Naples is on balance upon Virgilio egg.
